Hack and Slash is actually two related "free" and "open source" (GPL and LGPL,) projects. The first is the Hack and Slash Action RPG computer game. Please feel free to use any graphics or information off this page for news concerning the Hack and Slash Action RPG computer game.

The Hack and Slash Action RPG computer game specializes in arcade style play control, combined with the use of the Hack and Slash Role-Playing System concepts. It is 3D, and supports solid multi-player game play, with up to 32 players per level. It is meant to be re-used and/or altered for use in both free computer games AND NON-FREE COMPUTER GAMES, under the terms of the GPL open source licence. This also means that "Total Conversions" of the Hack and Slash Action RPG can be distributed as independent stand alone games. Programmers, game developers and mod/TC developers, please note the "For developers" section below.

The second project is the Mano a Mano Role-Playing System, written for use with paper and pencil Role-Playing Games. (The Hack and Slash Action RPG computer game uses the Mano a Mano Role-Playing System.) We've been working on what is now the Mano a Mano Role Playing System since 1988. This Mano a Mano RPS has been "open source" since before May of 2001 (a while before we got wind of the plans to make the "D20" system "open source.") This system specializes in the effects of size and health in combat.
